In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, black pepper, salt, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. This will be the rub for the pork shoulder. 2. Rub the mixture all over the pork shoulder, making sure to get it into all the nooks and crannies. 3. Place the pork shoulder in a slow cooker. 4. Pour the water around the pork. 5. Cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the pork is tender and shreds easily with a fork. 6. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. 7. Drain off most of the liquid from the slow cooker, leaving about 1 cup behind. 8. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and add the barbecue sauce. Stir to combine with the remaining liquid. 9.
